Research Information
Management System
RIMS is an important national initiative designed to improve the way Latvia collects, manages, and publishes scientific information.
The terms of use for the Research Information Management System are available here.
Why is the project necessary
Currently, research data is scattered across different systems, formats, and institutions, which makes it difficult to gain a clear overview at a national level, prepare evidence‑based policy decisions, and clearly showcase Latvia’s scientific achievements.
RIMS addresses this challenge by creating a centralized, standardized, and interconnected national system where information about researchers, institutions, projects, publications, datasets, collaboration partnerships, and scientific activities across the country is collected in one place.
The project supports Latvia’s strategic goals in the areas of open science, digital transformation, and international competitiveness. By reducing fragmentation and improving data quality, RIMS ensures that researchers, institutions, policymakers, and the public can access precise, up‑to‑date, and reliable information that reflects the true scope and impact of Latvian research.
As science becomes increasingly global, data-intensive, and competitive, countries need coordinated infrastructures that ensure transparency, efficiency, and smart governance. RIMS is Latvia’s response to this challenge.
Project objectives
Each objective reflects a long-term commitment to modernising Latvia’s research infrastructure.
How Pure supports the project
By choosing a proven international system, Latvia avoids newly developed systems and the lengthy development process that would be required to build the project from scratch, while ensuring compatibility with European research infrastructure.
Key areas of implementation
Each area represents a specific set of tasks on the path towards a fully functional research information infrastructure.
Impact on Latvia
A unified, reliable, and internationally interoperable research information infrastructure to advance Latvian science.
