From 1 to 3 December, VPC data curators Kaspars Bērziņš, Mikus Melderis, Kristaps Oškalns and Gita Rozenberga visited Daugavpils University to introduce the fundamentals of research data management and discuss potential regulations for the institution’s research data governance.
Seminars
During the visit, the data curators conducted several seminars on the principles of open science, research data management, the processing of sensitive data, as well as long-term data preservation and sharing. Students, researchers, and administrative staff took an active part in the sessions.
Additionally, Nursing students were offered a tailored seminar on managing sensitive healthcare data, covering both theoretical and practical aspects.
Consultations
Alongside the seminars, the curators provided individual consultations to university researchers. The main focus was on practical support in meeting funders’ requirements and developing high-quality data management plans, which are crucial for preparing competitive project proposals.
Collaboration Opportunities
Discussions with Daugavpils University leadership highlighted concrete next steps for further collaboration. The parties explored how the data curators could contribute their expertise to the development of institutional research data management guidelines and support the establishment of a unified research data collection within the national DataverseLV repository.
A significant part of the conversation was devoted to broader strategic partnership, particularly regarding the University’s involvement in VPC-led projects on the digitalisation of Study Processes and Scientific Activity. This collaboration will support the modernisation of study services and strengthen both the research and academic environments by ensuring access to innovative digital solutions.
Thank you for the warm welcome!
Many thanks to Jānis Kudiņš, Vice-Rector for Development, for his support in organising and hosting the visit!
Presentations from the seminars are available to all interested parties.
